Lennie Pond was an American professional stock car racing driver who was born on April 11, 1940, in Ettrick, Virginia. He started his racing career in the late 1960s and competed in NASCAR's top series, now known as the Cup Series, between 1969 and 1989.
Pond won his first race in 1973 at Talladega Superspeedway, and went on to win one more race during his career, which spanned over 234 races. He also had 32 top-five finishes and 75 top-ten finishes.
Pond was known for driving the No. 54 Chevrolet, and he was helped by his father, oil distributor Clarence Pond. Lennie was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1999 and the National Motorsports Press Association's Hall of Fame in 2010.
He passed away on February 10, 2016, at the age of 75 due to complications from cancer.
